ABACA AND GLASS SPLASHBACK

WHAT WE DID

A backsplash is the panel you find behind a kitchen sink or stove, its primary purpose is to protect the wall from water and food splashes.

When it came to designing our kitchen backsplash, we decided to cover the wall in abaca. I like the idea of a textured background in my kitchen made with natural materials. I had never seen this done, and was quite hesitant.

Afterwards we covered it in tempered glass to protect the abaca from heat and other damage.

You can use any wallpaper and even fabric for this effect. For areas exposed to temperature changes, the glass needs to be tempered.

SUPPLIERS YOU’LL NEED

WALLPAPER AND WALLPAPER INSTALLER

Ideally, hire professionals because it makes a difference. Although, some people may be skilled enough to try to do it themselves, my hands are not steady enough for this sort of thing. I recommend Simor Abaca who I worked with on this project # (02) 8811 3080 look for Nova.

GLASS

To be safe, we hired a professional glass and window supplier whose advice we followed. This is a large piece of glass so I didn’t want to take any health and safety risks by attempting to install it ourselves. I recommend Christian #0928 505 6311.

Link for suppliers I have worked with. Feel free to send me a message via our Contact Us page if you’d like more information or a consultation.
