ABOUT

The Forewoman is a website I launched to chronicle how anyone can practice a little creativity within their home. The website is about decorating and leisurely ways spend time in the comfort of one’s abode. Using home design as a starting point, this website hopes to celebrate the many wonderful things about staying in.

I often think of myself as a forewoman, a female foreman. As a forewoman, I have managed residential projects, and realised how closely it relates to managing a household in that it deals with people management, budgets and deadlines. Its indeed a funny sight- a 5 foot 2 woman barking orders at burly men.

I have been an interior decorator for over a decade, staging spaces such as boutiques, offices, residential model units. I am perhaps like you, a design enthusiast, with a specific interest in residential home design. Hopefully, I can contribute some of the things I learned, at times the hard way, and help you use your time and resources efficiently.

Stylistically, I am a neutralist that likes a little pop of colour. I like to keep things pared back with a sense of tradition. I like to think everything I use has purpose and meaning. I need to be in serene spaces for me to be able to think clearly. Funnily, I have ‘no chill’ so I need to be surrounded by calm.

Whenever I visit a construction site, I come out either laughing or crying. There is simply no middle ground. It’s fun, it’s stressful, it’s challenging and it’s emotional. In the end it is worth it and experience tells me it’s arguably better to laugh about it.

While I appreciate the circular economy, I admittedly don’t easily part with things. Consequently, the site encourages you to repurpose and refurbish things in your home you might be having second thoughts about. While some disparage sentimental value, for me, the sentimental things matter most.
