PINK AND GREEN

This is a bright and busy scheme, with a lot going on. From the bold stripes of the table cloth, to the contrasting hand painted plates, there’s plenty happening. I began this table scheme by choosing the plates. All the remaining design elements are anchored on the plates’ colours.

As a backdrop, I used a green and white striped Mana inabel tablecloth and matched it with green table napkins bordered by crocheted scalloping. Some people refer to this revival of chitz as Grandmillenial Style a term that was coined by Emma Bazilian. Popularised by firms such as House of Hackney.

As a child, my bedroom wallpaper was in pink and green stripes and I had the prettiest drapes in a floral pink and yellow Manuel Canovas fabric, that my mother chose. She used the same fabric in throw pillows and bed cover. And I had a sofa in a lovely Pierre Frey bright yellow fabric. This table reminds me of my bedroom then.

TABLEWARE

For the tableware, I used a set of pink and green plates, all Italian. The rose gold cutlery is from Herdmar, the crystal glasses are f&d. Because the glasses are so clear, they are almost invisible on the table, allowing us to appreciate the stripes of the table cloth more fully.

DECORATIVE ELEMENTS

In terms of decorating the table, I used a crystal vase with palm leaves taken from the garden. In addition, I placed a small antique hand painted metal bird to greet each guest when they pick up their wine glass.
