CRYSTAL, BEIGES AND BLUES
A matchimalist tablescape, I was very careful with what I paired with it as it could all easily go wrong. By working within the fabric’s colours, tonally, (I hope you will agree) that the the various aspects of the table work together harmoniously.
I often take my cue from the textiles I work with. I usually begin a scheme by choosing fabric. Afterwards, I then anchor all the elements of the design, whether a bedroom or a tablescape on this. This Telas de Mercato fabric was the starting point of this tablescape. We turned the textile into a made-to-measure table cloth and matching table napkins. Some people refer to this revival of chitz as Grandmillenial Style a term that was coined by Emma Bazilian.
I took the tan and beige tones from the fabric to then choose stoneware and cutlery to complete the setting. By choosing colours from the textile as a basis for colours of cutlery and other items on the table, the objects share the same language and are communicating with each other.
TABLEWARE
For the tableware, handmade pottery stone plates by the wonderful Lanelle Abueva. The bamboo-style cutlery is from Manila House, the crystal glasses are a mix of vintage and crystal from Rustan’s.
DECORATIVE ELEMENTS
In terms of decorating the table, I kept it simple with small fishbowls from Landmark where single hand cut indigo hydrangeas from Unimart sat atop. Because the table is so busy, I wanted clear floral vessels. The cowrie and fiber charger is from CITEM.The beige grosgrain ribbon on the table napkin is from Wrapshop.
I used a candle holder from Landmark as a decorative element, and did not put candles on them since this was a lunch. I only ever really usually light candles during dinner. However, if you live in a tropical country, lighting candles during meals, especially out of doors can sometimes keep some insects at bay.
TABLE VIBES
I sprayed the room with White Company’s Seychelles room spray before guests arrived, the coconut and bergamot scent suited the imagery of shells printed on the fabric. It reminds me of one of my favourite scents, the Heidi Klein’s Coconut Beach candle. On Spotify, Summertime by Ella Fitzgerald, Hold On, I’m Comin’ by Sam & Dave, Me and You by HONNE and Cool Blue by The Japanese House.
With the exception of the White Company’s room spray, all of these can be sourced in the Philippines.
